Short term freebie! This single page "Color by Code" printable will get your students thinking about animal classifications from their living systems science studies! There are five groups of animals that are vertebrates and one animal group that are invertebrates. The animal groups featured include mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and insects. Students read the animal names in each section of the "Color by Code" printable, determine the animal classification, and then color the section according to the key provided at the top of the page. If students are unsure of an animal's classification they could check in books made available to them or on a computer. Great activity for second grade to fourth grade range!
Earth Day is on April 22nd. The title of the printable is called, "Color by Code - Earth's Inhabitants". The educator can use the printable as a lead in to a discussion with students about the importance of taking care of Earth for the benefit of the animals on our planet as well as for ourselves.
An answer key is provided as well as a version with British spelling.
