Visual learners having difficulty learning the most common words in your kindergarten reading program? Looking for a way to differentiate and accelerate high-frequency word practice? Have them broaden their horizons by practicing using color sets. Each student will start off with one color set (10 sight words in the first 11 groups) and will not move on to the next set until those 10 are mastered. Angela may work with her green set for three weeks, while Justice breezes through and is quickly working on the green, orange, and blue sets. Both are working and both are progressing. Send a set home and keep a set at school to use in your literacy center.
* This set uses sight words in a different order than my original listing. Kindergarten typically will not go through all of them, but I've included the first 110 words in the reading program I use with my class - Reading Horizons. Or, you can download the complete set, which includes 300 words for grades K-3 with bonus award pages, by purchasing: "Color Coded Sight Words - Version 3.0 (Most Common Words 1-300)."
