This is a set of calendars with a graphic for each day- including weekends- for students to color in when they have read at least 15-20 minutes that day. This is a great tool for at home reading accountability. Students love to color in when they've read, so this can be a useful motivator for having them read at home, and a gentle reminder to parents that it's important to read at home as much as possible.
You can give a calendar to a student once a month for them to keep track of their reading and have them turn it in to you at the end of each month, or every Friday to keep track of their progress. This regular check-in time can be a quick conversation with each student about their reading habits- where are they reading? With who? How long? How often? This will help keep them engaged, focused and accountable.
It's up to you and your class to set a weekly or monthly goal. Do you want students to aim for reading 20 total days a month- they can choose flexibly between weekdays or weekends, or 4-5 times a week, including weekends- the choice is yours! Also- would you like them to read 15 or 20 minutes?
This resource can be hung on the refrigerator, in a child's bedroom, etc. for easy access and a visual reminder to read. They can complete their reading with a friend, sibling, guardian, stuffed animal or by themselves!
