Description

Lesson 1 Objective: Students will work individually or in small groups to write a poem about a color.

Lesson 2 Objective: Students will work individually or in small groups to write a poem about a color using their senses.

I use the first lesson, Color Poems, in kindergarten as a collaborative writing project. I use the second lesson, Color Senses Poems, with first graders as an independent poetry writing project. Both types of poems are more structured and used as an introduction to poetry in the library.

Materials included: Common Core connections for grades K-2, Color Poem templates for 10 colors in 2 sizes: 8.5x11” and 8.5x14”, Color Senses Poem templates for 10 colors in 2 sizes: 8.5x11” and 8.5x14”, lesson plan for each type of color poem
