Color Schemes and Color Mixing Made easy! This art lesson provides you with a delicious, “kid-friendly” subject matter to teach students about 7 common color schemes that can help them to apply harmonious color combinations to enhance their artworks throughout your art class.
This color scheme knowledge is helpful for students when they have to choose colors for any art project that you might assign to them. Having a system for choosing colors helps students to not “ruin” a beautiful drawing, painting, mask, Paper Mache sculpture etc. by applying poor color choices that detract from a final end result. When students can confidently choose and mix colors with paint or art supplies it saves you a lot of wasted time, paint and supplies too!
This product provides you with 3 different project variations to teach the color schemes. The Ice cream color scheme worksheet included is a lesson that also can be used to practice color mixing skills. This project can be reduced to simpler objectives for 4th and 5th graders by limiting the color schemes to Rainbow, warm and cool and (Triadic) Primary and Secondary colors. 6th graders can handle all 7 color schemes with a lot of guidance from the teacher to help them along. 7th and 8th graders should be able to handle this lesson quite well. This lesson provides a quick and fun way to review color schemes and color mixing with older High School students or as a fun extended sub plan. However you choose to use the materials provided, this is a handy lesson to have “ready-to-go” when choosing beautiful colors is essential to student success !
