This color word literacy center game is perfect for the beginning of the year in kindergarten! It will perfectly complement your unit on colors and color words. This resource consists of 6 colorful owl cards (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple), 6 matching color word cards, and a recording sheet.
Directions: To prepare this game, print the owl and color word cards (in color). Cut the cards apart and laminate for durability. Print the recording sheet and make as many copies as you need for your students.
I would first model this game in a small group setting (during guided reading groups). Flip all the owl cards over and place them on one side of the table. Do the same with the color word cards and place them on the other side of the table. Have students take turns flipping one card over from each stack to see if they match. When matches are found, all students can find the word on their recording sheet and trace it. The game ends when all owls are matched and all words are traced! After modeling this game during guided reading groups, you can add it to your word work or writing center for independent practice!
I hope that you find this literacy center game to be helpful and fun for your students! If you like this product, please check back at my TPT store for additional resources!
