Picture Word Puzzles - 3 Letter Rhyming Word Families - Pre-K -1 BW

Color Your Own Rhyming Word Family Three Letter Picture Word Puzzles for Pre-K-K-1 in BW Only

These 66 three letter picture word puzzles are especially helpful for students who do not yet feel successful about their reading ability. The picture clues and short words are easy to match. “Sounding out” the word and guessing combine to bring success. These puzzles can be used as an individual practice project or a chance to collaborate with another student, tutor, or parent.

The 66 words included in this set of puzzles are:

Bus, fly, ship, egg, can, bud, ham, paw, dot, two, map, frog, pot, stop, pup,
Ant, bee, box, bug, car, cat, dog, fan, fox, hat, hen, jug, mop, log, key, sad, sub, sun, tie, pie, pig, pin, rug, mug, nut, oak, pen, top, van, tub, web, bat, wig, bed, six, cow, red, jar, ten, fin, cap, bow, pan, saw, jay, eel, owl, yam, zip, sap, ram

Just print out the pages of the .PDF file on 110# card stock, cut the words apart, then cut each word along the pale lines to make the puzzles. The color words have 2 lines, but the second line is optional. The black line puzzles are more difficult to match, so I have only put one line. You may wish to experiment with two lines. And be sure to experiment with letting children attempt sounding out mismatched cards.

I keep my puzzle sets in a small drawstring bag, however, a small box, or envelope work well. They should be organized into smaller groups according to what sounds are being studied. The whole pile and two students working cooperatively is sometimes a good review game.
