What do you do when picture day is held in the auditorium and the auditorium is also your classroom which means you have to travel around to classrooms that day? And THEN your principal asks you to try to be in EVERY classroom group picture?!?! That was my dilemma one spring. I have never walked more than I did that day. It was next to impossible to get a full lesson in with my elementary students.
Never underestimate the power of coloring. I didn't want to leave the TA with a lesson to attempt to teach while I was running back and forth from my room to the kids' classroom. My solution was to have them complete a coloring activity. The result: a silent activity that took almost an entire 50 minutes! I've never seen my students so focused on coloring so perfectly.
All my students had learned their notes and I wanted them to practice identifying the notes on their own. This is a bundle of four Easter-themed color by note worksheets at varying levels. I also used this as an assessment for whether or not my students knew the notes by name and also what they looked like.. I also began using these worksheets for extra work if my students finished independent work early or if they had a good day they would get a coloring page to take home.
