Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month & Mexican Independence Day Sept 16 using Spanish in your Classroom. No need to be fluent. Just follow the quick reference below and you will have all your students from K-2 reading and coloring in Spanish. This activity was designed to have students in Pre K -2 creating their own Aztec headbands. Using Pre cut Phrase strips have students color and attach all the Aztec calendars and create a beautiful Mexican headpiece. Great for Hispanic Heritage Month
The Aztec Calendar is a stone measuring 13 feet in diameter and weighs 24 tons. It was uncovered in Mexico City in 1790. The Sunstone, is a calendar with lots of of information about planting seeds and the gods associated with the days.
Once the kids have designed their headbands continue your Hispanic Heritage Month of September mini celebration with a word search of the best known Mexican foods. You can ask your students if they have eaten them in Mexican restaurants. The Word search has the Mexican Flag. Make it a small group competition.
This is an exciting lesson where your students can learn colors in Spanish and practice saying different Mexican Foods.
This coloring worksheet has two BONUS colors - dorado y plata. Great transition activity. It satisfies Communication Standard 1.1 and 1.2
