This student created Colorado History timeline makes for a great display!
Reading and understanding a timeline is a key skill in 4th grade. As the class completes this project, they will review key events of Colorado history. Key events from American history are added as a frame of reference. Students will be able to answer, “As this was happening in Colorado, what was happening in the rest of the country?”
Using poster paper or butcher paper, create a blank time line. Starting with 1100, include dates in 25 or 50 year increments. Post the blank timeline in class before students begin.
The time line begins in 1100 and continues to 1974.
To complete the project, pass out one event to each student. Instruct students to review the event by looking back at their Colorado History Notebooks, or by looking back in their books.
Students will write a short summary about the event on a note card. After completing the summary, students will create a visual representation of the event. Allow students to be creative. Visualizations can be 2d or 3d.
After completing the project, students will engage in group discussions.

This project has been adapted from my California history timeline project. I moved from LA to Denver and am now in the process of transferring all of my favorite projects to fit the needs of my Coloradan students!
