Colorful Apples is an original story by Maureen Wright, and it's just in time to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr., and his dream that "All men are created equal." Colorful Apples is a BRAND NEW read aloud for you and your students to enjoy. Your students will love creating visual images, and you will love the character building conversations that follow. It's kind of like a picture book without the pictures! Let your students' imaginations take over as you share a story about how 3 very colorful apples find out that what is in the inside is what matters most... the color of your skin, doesn't define what is in your heart.
* Make a copy of the story, Colorful Apples, by Maureen Wright.
* Read Colorful Apples to your students in a read aloud setting. Dim the lights, gather closely and explore what matters most.
* Or, make copies for your older students to read independently, in partners or even a small group. The ideas are endless.
* Enjoy a class discussion on: diversity, tolerance, integrity, differences, character...
There are NO worksheets, writing prompts, crossword puzzles, skill pages, etc. to go along with this resource, yet! We think that sometimes a conversation is all you need to set the wheels of young minds in motion. So enjoy this time with your students, and see where the story takes you.
If you're looking for a fun activity to go along with Colorful Apples, here is an oldie but goodie; Set 3 apples on a table: Red, Yellow, and Green. Have your class write down, draw or share what they see. Then, slice each apple in half, diagonally for a star shape to appear, and observe how the centers of all three are identical... just like us... we are different on the outside, but our hearts remain the same... our hearts are what makes us "Difference Makers." As Maureen Wright likes to say, "Don't miss out on the opportunity to learn the true value of each person." Gotta love a teachable moment.
We hope you enjoy Colorful Apples, almost as much as we did creating it. Be sure to share your experience when you review our product on our TpT page. We can't wait to hear how you incorporated Colorful Apples into your school day, and how you used it celebrate one of the biggest "Difference Makers" of all.
Have an awesome day!
