This packet contains 54 colorful food cards that may be used to help early childhood through 2nd grade students learn to label, categorize and associate foods, and improve word finding skills, while playing a modified card games. All materials may be developed by one SLP for personal use and may be printed as often as needed for your student’s preschool teachers, teachers and parents to ensure carryover in the child’s natural environment.
Cards include 12 fruits, 15 vegetables, 7 grains, 7 meats , 12 sweets and 1 soup.
Suggested Activities for Target Words
Make 2 -3 copies of cards. Laminate and cut out cards.
Play Candy Land using these cards. If a player picks a solid color, the player moves ahead to the color on the card. If a player picks a card with 2 stripes, the player gets to move two colors ahead on the board. The child names the animal and/or the color of the card each time her or she takes a turn.
These cards may also be used to play Memory and Go Fish.
Have students categorize foods into the food groups.
Once the child becomes comfortable with naming the items correctly, have him or her name of the animals and/or colors quickly to improve word finding skills.
