PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Hi Teachers! Are you looking for a way to help your students love writing? That all starts with showing them that writing can be a joy instead of a chore. These photo writing prompts are great for writing workshop, literacy centers, author's chair sharing, morning work or writing warm-ups. Students can use them to write poetry, personal narratives or fiction.

This "A Picture's Worth A Thousand Words" unit includes:

1) 42 Mini-Photo Writing Prompt Cards

These small writing prompt cards can work much the same as task cards. *A Picture's Worth 1,000 Words* makes a great literacy center or author’s chair/writing workshop activity. It also works as a creativity-boosting morning warm up. Just print, cut, and laminate the cards in color or grayscale and put them on a jump ring or in a pencil box. You might also like to print a class set on regular paper in grayscale for the students to glue into their writing journals beside their written responses.

2) The Same 42 Photo Prompts in a Larger Size

You might prefer larger versions of the photos instead of the small set. You can print these in color or grayscale and put them in a three ring binder for independent work or literacy centers. To use as a whole-class activity, project them on a big screen.

3) A Picture's Worth 1,000 Words Introductory Activity

Step by step instructions for introducing *A Picture's Worth 1,000 Words* to your students, along with two sample written responses to share with students or use as a guide for writing your own mentor texts.

4) Mini-Rubric for Easy Grading/Feedback

Provides a way to give quick and encouraging feedback to your students.

5) *A Picture's Worth 1,000 Words* Journal Covers

A choice of four different journal covers. Covers can be printed in color or grayscale, then cut and glued onto the front of spiral notebooks. Alternately, print and insert into three ring binder covers.

With the exception of a few photos taken by my immediate family members, I am the photographer for the photos in this set. I've enjoyed writing about each photo in the mix, and I hope you and your students will do the same.

This unit aligns CCSS writing standards and Texas writing TEKS!
