These reading logs recorded on bookmarks reinforce the elements of fiction. Character, setting and conflict are highlighted on Reading Log Bookmarks as students track their reading progress and review elements of fiction in a simple and direct way during the school year. These bookmarks provide teachers with concise and helpful feedback about individual student's independent and classroom reading work. The bookmarks are double-sided and printed in black and white for students to color as they complete each book. For each book a student reads during the year, he/she completes the bookmark briefly highlighting major elements of fiction on it (without giving away the story). The bookmark is attached to a binder ring and hung from a bulletin board or from a hook. As the year progresses, students’ individual stacks of colored bookmarks grow, providing a visual record of reading progress and a colorful display that highlights the importance of reading in your classroom for parents and students! In addition, the concepts of character, setting, and conflict are reinforced for every book read. At the end of the year, students take the bookmarks home as a souvenir of their investment in reading!
Bonus: This set of bookmarks includes bonus bag tags which may be colored, laminated, and attached to backpacks and lunch bags by students. The patterns on these tags match and complement the bookmarks!
I have used this procedure for years and my students love seeing their stack of bookmarks grow as their reading skills grow and develop through daily reading practice! Enjoy!
