Looking for simple, yet engaging activities for the Middle School Math classroom? This particular activity is a Coloring Page activity. Basically a color by number, but the students have to solve math problems to get the numbers. It's a wonderful way to let students review and have a little fun (Middle School students still love to color, even if they don't admit it).
Coloring Pages can be done in class or as homework or as a combination. They can be an individual activity or done as a group. Coloring Pages work great on holidays or any day when the kids might be hyper. Just put them in groups, give each student a worksheet and let them work while they chat and help each other. It makes for a good, not too stressful review day for everybody!
This is geared toward 6th and 7th grade. It includes adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. There are 25 problems total. It starts with 3 adding, 3 subtracting, 3 multiplying, 3 dividing and then the second half is all four operations mixed together. There are not any mixed numbers in the problems. A few answers are mixed. The students will need to find common denominators on most of the adding/subtracting problems. All numerators and denominators are less than 12. Fractions do need to be simplified.
