Kindergarten Darlings has created a math and literacy unit around colors. Please take the time to rate this unit. It is greatly appreciated.
The main focus of the unit is color recognition and reading simple text through sight word recognition. The students will explore color words by looking at the color words, reading the color words, building the color words and writing the color words. There is a student book called My Crayon Box (available in black line master) and 2 interactive simple sight word stories. These are great for guided reading groups or independent student work time. In addition, the unit comes with literacy centers: Build a sentence, Match the sentence (match a simple sentence to a picture), Beginning sounds, Rhyming sort and more. In addition, the unit has color cards that are great for a color wall, the word wall or simply used with interactive activities for the students.
In addition, the students will learn how to recognize numbers, write the numerals, as well as count sets and make sets from 0-10 through color number activities. The unit provides hands on activities and student work produces. The unit has many number center activities: How Many Crayons? (counting sets of crayons displayed in ten frames), Show me (making sets of crayons) and more. Finally, there is a graphing activity where students can share their favorite color.
Finally, the unit has an assessment section. There is a color assessment for students to show their ability to recognize their colors. The literacy assessments focus on reading and sight word recognition. The math assessments focus on counting, making sets and counting sets. There is a whole class recording sheets to keep the teacher organized
