Colosseum Clash is a simple card game that students get to create themselves before playing against each other. The game piece of the project is very simple, and does not take too much time away from the academic research portion. Yet, because students are making and playing their own game, they often don’t even realize that they are also growing academically through this project. When students are done and ready to play, the game is a very easy two player card game that plays very similar to the classic card game “War”.
This is a great “mini-project” that fits in well during a unit on Ancient Rome, particularly the culture of the Roman Empire. Students will learn facts about Gladiator fighting through their research including; the different types of Gladiators, weapons and armor that was used, and how fighting worked in the arenas. Students will also demonstrate their ability to convert numbers into Roman Numerals and their ability to convert US measurements into Ancient Roman units.
Estimated Time Requirement: 2-3 Hours (Depending on how much time you give them to play the game, and how many cards you require them to create)
