What is Colour Tude?
Colour Tude is an Emotional Intelligence Education Program. The program uses colour as a metaphor for attitude, emotional/mental states and reactions. The program is divided into 3 Phases;
Phase 1 (skill set) - Identifying your own emotions through colour.

  • Phase 2 (diagnosis) - Identifying emotional reactions in others and external situations.
  • Phase 3 (remedy) - Transforming emotion of situation or self into a more empowering state.

The program focuses on 6 specific remedies for Phase 3 which include; Breathing, Self Talk, Grounding, Visualisation, Redirection of Focus and Relocation.

What is the structure of the Colour Tude Program?
 Colour Tude consists of 10 lessons of approximately 60 minutes each (or if time is limited, the program can be broken down into smaller lessons).
 Colour Tude is student-centred and uses open-ended tasks throughout which cater for diversity and allows self-awareness to thrive in the classroom. The activities are about what feels right for the student, therefore there are no right or wrong answers. This creates a positive and non-threatening learning environment.
 Colour Tude uses colour as a metaphor and an anime theme in the text and illustrations to make it enjoyable for students to learn. It uses two guides throughout; Zen (boy) and Harmony (girl) to give advice to the students.

Why learn about emotions?
Learning about emotions and how they can be self-regulated and transformed is one of the most important skills to learn in life. We constantly experience and are surrounded by emotions all day, every day. Although we can’t often change events around us in our lives, our ability as humans is that we are able to identify our own emotions with guidance, and to transform them to help us in life. Too often students are told to think about their emotions – in this program they will encouraged to focus on their ability to feel their emotions instead. Through looking within to the students’ internal world, they will come to understand themselves better, that is, to ‘know thyself’. This will lead to a beneficial effect on health of the body and the mind. Being able to transform your own emotions to a more empowering state, puts you in the driver’s seat to a more fulfilling life.
