The overall focus question for the assignment: Do you believe the Columbian Exchange was a positive or a negative for the New World. Students will use evidence from the documents to fill-in graphic organizers before they write their argumentative piece.

The graphic organizers also require students to interpret -- tell why the evidence/detail was positive or negative.

I have also added a sample student response for both positive and negative. This could be used to help struggling students as an example before assigning the work or even as a in class analysis.

This assignment aligns with both the ELA common core standards as well as the Social Studies Common Core standards for New York State.
