Recognize Columbus Day by conducting a class discussion of what Columbus and the Spanish explorers saw during their travels.
I created this PowerPoint for my Spanish classes as a cultural lesson but I also see it as a useful resource for Social Studies classes.
The lesson focuses very little on Columbus and his achievements. Instead, I tried to present images of Spain and the Americas at the time of Columbus.
The presentation also emphasizes questioning by students. There are several questions provided that guide class discussion during the lesson but students are encouraged to ask deeper, probing questions about European interaction with the people of the Americas.
There are no restrictions on editing so teachers may add or remove slides for customized instruction. They are also free to change the background colors and styles as they wish.
This slideshow is presented in English only in order to accommodate all classes.
