This is a fun craftivity for your students to do before Columbus Day. Christopher Columbus came upon the Caribbean islands in 1492. It was generally assumed for many years that Columbus discovered America. Many prefer to state that Columbus came upon the Americas. To many, Columbus remains a controversial figure and this is due in part to treatment of the Taino, the Native Americans of the Caribbean.
Teaching about Columbus Day requires a modicum of sensitivity in the way the topic, and resulting activities, are presented.
