This pack of activities is a perfect way to investigate Columbus in a way that is meaningful and critical for your older students. I don't know about you, but as a 5th grade teacher, I've always shied away from these kinds of activities because they tend to be geared toward lower grade levels. So I decided to create activities that were cute, engaging, AND critical.
Included in the pack are:
*Lesson plans & detailed instructions for the activities in the pack
*4 mini-posters to access prior knowledge on an anchor chart
*KWL chart for students
*8-page mini-booklet on Columbus and his explorations (reading level is between 4th and 5th grade)
*Facts & Myths activity sheet
*A craftivity (with all necessary materials and instructions) to go with the writing prompt "If I discovered a new world..." (geared to have students synthesize and analyze Columbus' actions and write about what they would do differently)
*Persuasive prompt with writing paper for students to analyze whether or not Columbus deserves a national holiday, including grading rubric
