I have created 5 Columbus Day themed logic puzzles that would be appropriate for logic puzzle beginners. These puzzles have clues related to Christopher Columbus.
**Disclaimer** The puzzles have many true facts in them. I used true facts whenever possible. Some puzzles have made up clues. For example, in the puzzle titled Favorite Foods From the New World, I mention foods that Columbus really did bring back from the New World, but I do not know which of these foods was Columbus' or the King or Queen's favorite.
I have always enjoyed doing logic puzzles myself and decided to make some of my own for my students. Logic puzzles are excellent for critical thinking and reasoning skills. All logic puzzles can be solved by reading the clues. In my third grade class, I introduced logic puzzles by doing one as a whole group. Then I let them work on one with a partner. Finally, I let them try one on their own. They love these! They would work well as morning work.Your gifted and talented students will probably figure these out after an introductory lesson on how they work. I have included general directions for solving logic puzzles as well as solutions for each puzzle.
