This worksheet gives independent practice for students adding positive and negative integers. The concept to be learned from this worksheet is a-b=a+(-b). The focus is in three separate steps: Dividing or separating the terms of each expression, simplifying the signs and solving the expression. Variations includes: 1st term in parenthesis, more than two terms and problems containing additive inverses. A modified worksheet is included that has one additional problem completed. Encourage students to use the commutative property of addition to make the problems easier to solve; this is to help students to analyze solutions. The illustrations are to help summarize what is previous taught before giving this worksheet. Two extra credit problems are given for stretch learning.
