Product Description
As simple as this activity is, it really helped my kids understand the meaning of like terms because they had to discover it on their own. I started this activity with a deck of playing cards, and I gave each student one and had the class sorts themselves into groups. Then I gave them set A of the cards that just have constants and variable terms, and they saw quickly that the best way to sort was by variable. Next, they did the same thing with set B that includes terms with multiple variables and exponents, and it might take a little questioning and prodding to get them headed in the right direction, but then they get it!
