Students solve 20 (or 15) problems, self-check, AND color in this combining like terms color by number!

  • In this activity, students combine the like terms in each expression given. Students find the simplified expression on the coloring page and color it with the color indicated in the box for that problem. This activity is intended for students who are just beginning this concept, or need a review. There is some subtracting of like terms, but none of these result in negative answers, in case students haven't worked with negative integers yet.

  • There are two different versions – A and B. The version for each page is labeled in the upper left-hand corner.

  • Version A has 20 questions and version B has 15. The Version B coloring page is less detailed than Version A.

Two coloring pages with no numbers are included also, for students to color their own way.

Great for a sub day or a fun day!

Apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients.
Identify when two expressions are equivalent (i.e., when the two expressions name the same number regardless of which value is substituted into them). For example, the expressions 𝘺 + 𝘺 + 𝘺 and 3𝘺 are equivalent because they name the same number regardless of which number 𝘺 stands for.
Apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions. For example, apply the distributive property to the expression 3 (2 + 𝘹) to produce the equivalent expression 6 + 3𝘹; apply the distributive property to the expression 24𝘹 + 18𝘺 to produce the equivalent expression 6 (4𝘹 + 3𝘺); apply properties of operations to 𝘺 + 𝘺 + 𝘺 to produce the equivalent expression 3𝘺.
