Students will look at the top 12 roller coasters in the United States and develop their own Theme Park. There are several factors that go into selecting the top roller coasters.
Students will combine like terms to find equations that the students will be able to use to evaluate each roller coaster. There are 5 different categories for each roller coaster (Swag, Excitement, Power, Screams, and Money) Each category has an equation in which students must plug in values from the characteristic chart of roller coasters to find which roller coaster is the greatest. Students must be able to combine like terms (sometimes 4 different terms), and use the distributive property!
Students will use the new equations to evaluate 5 of the roller coasters they have decided to use in their park. They will plug in the information that is given to them to evaluate how successful their roller coaster was. They will then compare the 5 roller coasters by creating a chart and then they will explain and answer questions pertaining to their chart.
