Students with language disorders can often master the formulation of simple sentences. However, they start to fall apart when asked to construct compound or complex sentences; sentences with modifiers, sentences with clauses, sentences that require them to manipulate the words in the sentences provided in order to generate a single grammatically correct sentence.
These more complex sentences are needed to avoid sounding boring, to provide more variety in oral or written output, and to become more literate individuals.
Use these as individual task cards, for group practice at literacy centers, in speech-language intervention sessions in discrete or game format. You can even send them home for homework.
You can combine them with my other game cards for language, so that you can work on an array of skills, or target each student’s skills in a group or game format.
