Students review sentence structures and practice sentence combining to improve sentence fluency in this back to school game! At first, review clauses, FANBOYS, subordinating conjunctions, and relative pronouns; then play the game.
In the first round, students write compound sentences. In round two, they write complex sentences, and finally, in round three they write compound-complex sentences. All that you will need is the ability to project a PowerPoint, a ball, and a trash can.
Research shows that students often learn best when they can move, and this game motivates them with their love of sports. When you put your students in heterogeneous groups for a game with friendly competition, it is an excellent way to meet the needs of all of your students and reward them for their success. As an added bonus, the sentences give study tips for success in school.
This activity makes outstanding guided practice after instruction for sentence combining. Then follow the game with independent practice. Instructions, rules, and a key are included in the resource.
