This self-checking activity helps students practice combining related sentences using the most common conjunctions: and, but, or, so, and yet. Students are given two sentences which they must join using their choice of the conjunctions. Students then rewrite the two sentences as one being sure to correctly place the comma. After choosing the conjunction and combining the sentences, students can turn the card over to see the answer and check their work.
**Be sure to choose "two-sided printing" when printing the cards. This will enable you to simply fold the card in half, with the two sentences on front, the list of conjunctions, space for the chosen conjunction to be written, and lines for rewriting the sentences on the inside, and the answer on the back.
I would suggest printing the cards on card stock and laminating them to enable students to write on them with dry erase markers, allowing them to be used again and again.
Great for practicing for the STAAR writing test!
