This is a no-frills mini-unit on writing compound sentences. It is great for a quick review, extra practice for struggling students or a way to make sure the basics are mastered. It is short and to the point.
If you are teaching an older struggling reader to write this would be a useful unit. Many of my older students have missed out on the basics because they were unable to decode. When their reading starts to improve, they have catching up to do in writing.
It could also serve as a source of extra worksheets to add to your primary writing curriculum. I've included a set of sentence combining cards to use as a hands-on activity. My students have enjoyed combining sentences in this way.
The worksheets are intentionally plain and uncluttered. They are designed to work with students with dyslexia so they have no cute graphics or distracting color or frames.
This makes a good follow up to my Writing Sentences unit.
