A six minute demonstration of painting and color mixing with liquid tempera. This video accompanies my Comic Art Painting Project but can be helpful for any simple paint mixing activity.
I purchase gallon jugs of liquid tempera and refill plastic squeeze bottles for my classes. We use student quality bristle brushes. For outlining, students can choose to use black permanent marker while more confident students may choose black tempera and a liner brush. The grid drawing in the demo was completed in 9H pencil prior to applying this coloring technique. My classes use glossy magazine pages as disposable palettes for paint mixing. Magazines are becoming harder to come by but unwanted catalogs continue to be readily available.
I use standard 22x28" poster board cut in half for a 14x22" painting surface.
