Comic Strips for Creative Writing:
Help students develop their narrative creative writing skills (CCRA.W.3) by practicing dialogue (W.3.3b, W.4.3b, W.5.3b) with these 10 comic strip mini-stories featuring cute woodland creatures.
The strips have blank speech and thought bubbles for students to write in. Students can also draw/color/design their own settings and other details.
These feature full-color images from Revidevi on TPT, but print well in grayscale.
Ideas for use:
Give students a set of vocabulary or spelling words they must use.
Assign a character trait and have students make a character demonstrate that trait.
After students finish comic strips, have them re-write the dialogue in paragraph form with appropriate punctuation (quotations marks, commas). Example: "I found a nut! I found a nut!" exclaimed the little brown squirrel.
Choose a theme (moral of the story, life lesson) and have students create a comic strip modeling that theme.
Just for fun:
Inside recess, early finishers, etc.
