Problem Based Learning (PBL) that puts students as stakeholders on their journey across the Atlantic in order to immigrate to the United States around the turn of the 20th Century.
The PBL scenario has multiple perspectives from passengers coming from different parts of the world. By developing their own research questions, students research why immigrants came and what life was like after immigration.
Students solve real world issues when faced with a choice during their voyage, and discover differences gender and class make.
You may use the extra scenario (kicker) to extend this activity to the Titanic. Included is information on how to do this.
Included is an overview for teachers, scenarios for students, "kicker" for students, resources including print and internet links.
