This graphic organizer for the article 'Coming to Our Senses' by Neil DeGrasse Tyson focuses on the Key Ideas & Details cluster of standards. There is also an ESE version of the organizer, which can be modified even more by asking for pictures instead of textual evidence for students who do not have the ability to cite explicit textual evidence.
Students should write the overarching main idea, then provide 3 key points Tyson makes to support his argument. Students will then cite explicit textual evidence that Tyson uses to detail his 3 key points. After citing the evidence, I have students explain in their own words. Then students will write an objective summary including the main argument and the 3 key details.
