This is a comma lesson designed for the high school level, although it can certainly be tweaked slightly for younger students. In this lesson, I focused on five main uses of commas: listing, introductory material, extra material (nonessential), sentences, and quotations. This lesson includes both a PowerPoint presentation and a Word document with an accompanying handout (a version with blanks for students to fill in as well as a version with the answers). To teach this lesson, allow students to take notes on the handout as you use the PowerPoint to provide humorous and helpful images as well as interactive practice throughout the lesson.
