I have ALWAYS struggled with coming up with a good unit on punctuation, and most students, even into HS, struggle with commas. This unit contains the 13 comma rules. It is made to be used with an interactive/writer's NB but can be used stand alone. If used in NB, have students cut the "rules" separate from "examples", cutting the "rules" into flaps for each set of "examples" to be glued underneath. If not, they can be three hole punched and used as regular notes. As a whole group, I project these overhead (but not necessary) and we highlight the rules and then highlight what corresponds in the examples, adding needed commas. After learning and practicing as a group, students work independently on adding missing commas on the WS. This is set up to learn/practice 3-4 rules per day, making this a 4 day unit if used on that schedule. A key is included for each guided lesson and independent WS.
