This bundle includes four weeks of bell work that focus on correcting comma splices. A great way to use this product is to go over one week of comma splice practice each quarter or when you notice comma splices creeping back into your students’ writing.
Each week uses paragraphs from literature and nonfiction:
• Week One—To Kill a Mockingbird
• Week Two—Tuesdays with Morrie
• Week Three--Stealing Lincoln’s Body by Thomas J. Craughwell
• Week Four—An article on the importance of reading to babies
Each week follows the same format:
--Five days of bell work. Each day features one paragraph from a work of literature that contains complex and compound sentences—as well as one comma splice that has been added. Students are asked to underline the comma splice and write it correctly on the lines provided.
--A PowerPoint that goes over the comma splice from each day’s bell work. It provides three ways to fix the error and goes over why the other sentences in the paragraph are not comma splices. Each of the four PowerPoints is around forty-five slides.
--A ticket out activity to be completed on the fifth day.
Each week is also sold separately. You can view them at the links below.
