This file contains 3 separate worksheets to teach students about comma usage, combining sentences, and using contractions. The first worksheet asks students to combine short, choppy sentences using either a [comma and contraction] or a semicolon. The second uses the same basic sentences modified by adding a depending/introductory clause at the beginning, and asks students to add the comma in the correct place. The third worksheet asks students to add periods and commas to run-on sentences to make them easier to read. The mini-lessons to go along with these worksheets are not provided, but can be very simple -- you can even just go over the directions on the top of the sheet and do the first 1 or 2 questions together!
These worksheets were developed for urban high school students with 2nd-5th grade reading levels, and are very appropriate for similar populations of learning disabled or academically distressed students. However, they can also be used in normally-developing middle school classrooms, or in normally-developing high school classrooms as a refresher.
If you need the .docx versions of any of these documents in order to edit them, please let me know and I'll send them to you after your purchase!
