Are you sitting there wondering how you can figure out what standards your students are excelling with and which of them your students are struggling on still? This is an easy tool that will help you figure it out quickly!
Using the NYS August 2015 Common Core ELA Exam found easily through a Google search, you can have your students practice taking a standardized test that is Common Core aligned and get the results you are looking for! I have created an easy chart that has the standards on it and the questions that go with each standard. Simply just tally which question students get wrong and your data will compile quickly and effortlessly!
I showed this to my building principal and he explained that this type of data collection is exactly what they are looking for in APPR evidence folders, so this could be an easy artifact for you as well as a driving tool for your lessons! We used this as a benchmark at our school so that we could see where our students were BEFORE they took the exam and so we could do whatever we could to push them to make their weaknesses become their strengths. The benchmark took two 40 minute periods to administer and was 20% of the students' grade, this way they took it as seriously as they should.
I will be adding more as time goes on. If you have a request, please contact me and I will see what I can do for you!
