This is a fun word sort activity that focuses on short and long vowels. It is appropriate for 1st and 2nd grade. This activity is great for a student to work on his own or add to a literacy station. It gives a quick snapshot if the child can distinguish long from short vowel sounds.
It can be printed on regular paper or card stock and put in a page protector or laminate. It is also fun to print off on magnetic sheets for students to sort on cookie sheets (from the dollar store) or on the side of a filing cabinet. This activitiy does meet the phonological awareness common core standard.
