Characters Face Bigger Challenges and So Do Readers
This unit entails working with students to describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges, retelling a story in order, using appropriate voice for each character in a story, using the summary on the back of a book to predict and choose text, and determining the author’s purpose.
The lessons have easy daily scripts for the teacher to use during the reading workshop lesson. Each mini lesson includes a connection, teaching point, active engagement, link, mid-workshop teaching point, share time, recommended mentor text and the common core standard met.
This unit is to be taught in November. There are 15 easy to follow scripted lessons.
