This digital download packet provides focused supplemental support to increase student understanding of the conceptualization and mathematical thinking behind the fraction, and how a fraction is represented as a number. This is done by using Bloom’s Taxonomy to drive instruction and assessment.

All questioning is spiraled using Bloom’s Taxonomy to build student content proficiency and to for teachers to quickly assess a student’s level of content proficiency. Icons have been created for easier and quicker association with the various levels of knowledge. A special sheet is also provided for students which list the icons and the Bloom Taxonomy knowledge domain they represent, allowing students to more accurately and quickly self-assess their level of content proficiency.
The first unnumbered sheet of the packet, titled ‘COMMON CORE MATH STANDARD: 3.NF.1’, is for the teacher. This sheet list the Common Core Math topic domain, standard, sub-standards, and learning objectives. Also listed are the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice emphasis areas and appropriate questioning strategies. Page number one is for students. Page one list the Common Core Math Standard, Standards for Mathematical Practice, and content proficiency goals. The math helper avatars Decinae and Math4Life are introduced on page one.
To provide students with motivation to exert more effort an element of “Gamification” has been added by presenting to students the opportunity to earn a “Math Medal” badge which can be redeemed for whatever reward the teacher may decide. The proficiency goals for the Common Core Math Standard are listed as Math Honor Medal goals.
There is a section at the end of the packet called MATHSTRONG. MATHSTRONG presents students with a series of math problems posed as “challenges”. These mathematical challenges are based around Common Core standard 3.NF.1. These math challenges spiral in their complexity through the use of a Bloom Taxonomy based questioning.
