The Common Core Standards put more emphasis on reading nonfiction informational texts.
This lesson is designed as a tangible way to teach your students reading strategies that good readers use in their heads.
It consists of an article with higher order comprehension questions which require students to cite specific details from the article along with paragraph(s) that support their answers. Instructions are included to guide students through strategies for comprehension, such as skimming, rereading, writing in the margins, underlining key terms, etc.
A complete answer key is included for the reading strategies (including notes in the margins, key details underlined, etc.) along with detailed answers to the questions.
