Let them have fun with poetry!
To do this cooperative group activity, students are required to read 7 poems . In teams they discuss each poem, identify the type of literary device used in each poem, provide evidence to support their conclusion through text quotes as well as with their own words. This activity provides students with a graphic organizer to record information. To ensure that “Learning Partners” stay on task, and use times wisely, circulate around to each team asking questions and assisting those who might have questions. You can do this easily because I have provided you with a chart to record your students' behavior and your observations. At the end of the lesson, wrap it up by letting them know how they did as a team. Assess your students' understanding with a quick five-minute “Ticket out the Door.”
