Exponential and logarithmic functions are both thoroughly explored in this 14 lesson unit. The unit begins with a development of rational exponents. Exponential functions are then introduced and their equations are found from any two arbitrary points. Modeling with exponential functions, especially based on percent growth and decay, is emphasized. Logarithmic functions are then introduced as the inverses of exponentials and their key characteristics are investigated. The number e and the natural logarithm are introduced and lead to compound and continuous interest. Finally, a lesson on Newton's Law of Cooling is included for higher-level modeling work.
