Representing Numbers in a Variety of Ways Tasks
(Common Core NBT.1)

This is a fun way to teach students how to represent numbers!
Through these two activities students will show their knowleged of the Common Core Standard NBT.1.

I have used these as math centers, assessments, and review.
These two task include:

Representing Numbers Task:
The student will need dice to complete this task. Roll the dice 5 times and then add all five digits together to create a larger sum. Then students are required to create this number in a variety of ways. This can be modified and students can use smaller numbers if desired. Students are then required to represent that number by writing the numeral, number words, draw the number using pictures, use base ten pieces and represent on a place value chart, tallies, use real objects to count the number and then represent it on the chart.

Number of the Day Task:
For this activity the teacher writes the number of the day on a piece of paper. Students then represent this number in the following ways on the chart provided:
-Draw it using base ten blocks
-spell it using letters
- next even #
-next odd #
- plave value (ones, tens, hundreds)
-draw it with tally marks
-1 more than
-1 less than
-10 more than
-10 less than
-100 more than
-Draw ten frames and fill in the frames to represent the number
