If you are anything like me, you always dread when it comes time for students to revise/edit their writing. My students always get done at separate times and when it comes time to revise, they never have anything specific to say to their partner.
This revision/editing checklist is common core aligned for fiction writing and is best used in this way:
-The author of the writing goes through the checklist with their own writing. They MUST read their writing each time per check (this means they will be reading it 11 times total before they finish their checklist).
-When done, the author gets with a partner (I typically assign writing partners) and each partner goes through each others writing with the checklist. On the back, the partner puts two stars (two things they think the author did well in their writing) and a wish (something the partner wishes the author had done).
This checklist I have found works with students 3rd grade and up (as many of the CCSS cross over year after year). My students were engaged in this because they had something to go by that was "user friendly" (although I very thoroughly modeled using this checklist before they did it on their own).
As always, let me know if you have any questions/comments/concerns.
