This document is based on the idea of "daily prompts," in a day by day calendar format. However, it's unique because it's "daily prompts," based on each common core math standard for Grade 3.
Each calendar possesses:
*15 challenging questions/activities, word problems, questions that require the use of manipulatives etc...
* Operations and algebraic thinking (3.OA) 45 prompts to choose from: 3 calendars
* Numbers and Operations in Base Ten (3.NBT) 30 prompts to choose from: 2 calendars
* Measurement and Data (3.MD) 30 prompts to choose from: 2 calendars
* Numbers and Operations in Fractions (3.NF) 30 prompts to choose from: 2 calendars
* Geometry (3.G) 30 prompts to choose from- 2 calendars
TOTAL= 11 calendars
THE PROMPTS CAN BE SELECTED AT RANDOM. I HAVE MY STUDENTS LIGHTLY COLOR THE BOX THEY'VE SELECTED AND DATE IT. All work is done in their math notebook and I call these problems "Problem of the Day" (POD).
Here are sample questions 1 from each calendar:
Use a multiplication hundreds chart:
Shade the rows labeled 2 and 4 in yellow. What do the products have in common?
Shade the rows labeled 5 and 7 in blue. What do the products have in common?
Use addition properties to find the sum:
Use fraction circles to help you create an underwater scene. Label each piece with its unit fraction, then cut out all of the pieces. Place your pieces where you want them BEFORE you glue your pieces onto construction paper. Make sure your pieces are glued down with the unit fraction label side up.
Area and Perimeter:
Draw 4 different sized rectangles on grid paper. Switch papers with a partner and have them find the area and perimeter of each rectangle.
Mira started riding her bike at 3:25pm. She rode for 15 minutes and then she took a 10-minute break. Then, it took her 10 minutes to ride back home. What time did Mira get home?
Estimate how long in centimeters each item is: your pencil, homework notebook, an eraser, and your pencil case.
Now use a ruler, to measure each item to find its exact measurement.
Trace an octagon onto a blank sheet of paper. Divide your octagon into equal parts.
How many total parts did you divide your octagon into? What is the unit fraction for each part? Label each part.
