This is a fun beginning sound game for preschool, kindergarten or first grade children. This game is great for children to play on their own or with a partner at a Center and is also great for a quick assessment.
Version 1: Put a different colored counter on each letter at the top of the game board (red counter on “t” and blue counter on “m”). Children touch each picture, say the name of the picture and put a colored counter that matches the first sound (put a red counter on the picture if it begins with “t”). Then move on to the next picture and do the same thing. See what pattern it makes when all of the pictures are covered.
Version 2: Mark letters on a plain die to match the letters on the game board. Put a different colored counter on each letter at the top of the game board. Have child roll the die and put a counter on the picture that begins with that letter. See what pattern it makes when all of the pictures are covered.
CC.k.2. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
